Der Aufruf:
“The first pride was a riot” – Stonewall war ein Aufstand. Diese Aussage ist mittlerweile zur Phrase geworden und bleibt dennoch wahr: Solange queere Menschen als Problem und Gefahr wahrgenommen werden, ist und bleibt Queer sein (leider) politisch!
Zwar sehen Staat und Stadt es aktuell als Vorteil queeres Leben zu fördern, sofern es nützlich und verwertbar ist. Gleichzeitig gibt es eine steigend heftige Stimmung gegen queere Menschen in Politik und Gesellschaft. Insbesondere die Geschlechtervielfalt und Menschen, die trans leben, sind vielen ein Dorn im Auge.
Kurz gesagt, kann eine queer gelesene Person kaum durch Ulm laufen ohne blöd angemacht zu werden. In den Landtagen und städtischen Gremien sitzen Menschen, die ganz aktiv rechte Politik gegen queere Menschen betreiben: Die Gelder für Beratungsstellen streichen wollen, schützende Gesetze abschaffen, queeres Leben zurückdrängen. Parteien, wie die AfD oder CSU und andere rechte und konservative Kräfte werben damit, dass sie die Rückkehr zu einem “traditionellen” Familienleben fördern wollen: Vater und Mutter, in Ehe zweisam vereint, mit gemeinsamen Kindern, und klar abgesteckten Geschlechtern. Hier Mann, da Frau. Wer davon abweicht, und wenn auch nur leicht, wird zum Problem, wird zum Feindbild. Seit diesem Sommer nimmt das Ganze an Fahrt auf: Mehrere Neonazi “Gegendemonstrationen” gegen queere Menschen und gegen Prides angemeldet. Queerfeindlichkeit organisiert sich.Auch in Ulm zieht mit Nicolas Brickenstein ein offen queerfeindliches, jahrelang bei der faschistischen Identitären Bewegung aktives AfD Mitglied in den Ulmer Gemeinderat. In den Reihen der zahlreichen SSV Ulm Fans akzeptieren viele stumm die neonazistischen Hooligans. SSV Hooligans, Identitäre Bewegung und AfD störten in der Vergangenheit mehrfach CSDs und andere Demos in Ulm. Von ihnen geht eine potentielle Gefahr aus, auch bei diesem CSD.
In diesem Bedrohungsszenario bilden queere Menschen zeitgleich eine lukrative Geldkuh, die Anwesenheit auf der Pride dient als Imagepflege: Schau, wie progressiv ich bin! Mit uns lässt sich heute fett Geld und für sich selbst Werbung machen. Wie auf jeder kommerziellen Pride werden wir in Ulm Großkonzerne als Sponsoren vorfinden. Eins davon ist das global agierende Pharmaunternehmen teva, welches in den USA in Millionenprozesse rund um Patient*innengefährdung verwickelt war sowie von Vertriebsdeals mit der Israelischen Regierung und somit (auch) von Militärgewalt profitiert. Das ist nicht so, weil teva ein einzigartig böses Unternehmen ist, sondern weil kapitalistisches Wirtschaften so funktioniert. Praktisch bedeutet das, dass wir als queere Menschen, die auch mal Medikamente einnehmen und die teilweise mit dem System Medizin und Pharma zu kämpfen haben, den CSD von so einem Unternehmen gesponsort sehen. Da kann einem die Pride auch vergehen!
Ebenso werden wir auf der Pride einen Stand der Polizei vorfinden und die CSU Neu-Ulm dient als Schirmherrin. In einer Welt in der Polizeigewalt allgegenwärtig ist und auf einem CSD, der entstanden ist, weil queere Menschen sich gegen Polizeigewalt gewehrt haben, ist das bemerkenswert. Auch dass die CSU- Bürgermeisterin von Neu- Ulm Schirmherrin ist, ist im besten Fall ein Lippenbekenntnis. Eben jene CSU, die in Bayern “Genderverbote” einführt und sonst eher für ihre Arbeit gegen queeres Leben bekannt ist.Es ist natürlich ein – durch jahrzehntelangen Aktivismus erreichtes – großes Glück und Privileg in einem Staat und einer Stadt zu leben in der eine Polizei einen Stand auf der Pride haben will, in der selbst christlich-konservative Parteien einen CSD unterstützen. Ebenso ist uns klar, dass “so” (durch entsprechendes Sponsoring) größere, professioneller organisierte Prides mittlerweile funktionieren.
Es geht uns also nicht darum nur anzuprangern oder die Party zu vermiesen.Sondern wir wollen unseren Beitrag leisten auch an die anderen Ebenen der Pride zu erinnern: Den Protest, den Kampf gegen das, was uns fertig macht (inklusive CSU, Polizeigewalt und internationale Pharmakonzerne), die Widerständigkeit gegen aktuelle Verhältnisse.Wir haben keinen Bock uns vereinnahmen zu lassen, wir haben keinen Bock so zu handeln als sei alles fein genau so, wie es ist: Ja, wir wollen queeres Leben feiern und ja, wir wollen laut protestieren ja, wir werden kämpfen für das, was uns allen zusteht! Ein gutes Leben für alle!

“The first pride was a riot” – Stonewall was a riot. This statement has now become a phrase and yet it remains true: as long as queer people are perceived as a problem and a danger, being queer is and will (unfortunately) remain political!
The state and the city currently see it as an advantage to promote queer life, as long as it is useful and exploitable. At the same time, there is an increasingly violent mood against queer people in politics and society. Gender diversity and trans people in particular are a thorn in the side of many. In short, a queer person can hardly walk through Ulm without being made fun of. There are people in the state parliaments and municipal committees who actively pursue right-wing policies against queer people: Who want to cut funding for advice centers, abolish protective laws, push back queer life. Parties such as the AfD or CSU and other right-wing and conservative forces advertise that they want to promote a return to “traditional” family life: Father and mother, united in marriage as two, with children together, and clearly demarcated genders. Here man, there woman. Anyone who deviates from this, even if only slightly, becomes a problem, becomes the enemy. The whole thing has been gathering pace since this summer: Several neo-Nazi “counter-demonstrations” against queer people and against Prides registered. Queerophobia is getting organized.
In Ulm too, Nicolas Brickenstein, an openly anti-queer AfD member who has been active in the fascist Identitarian Movement for years, has been elected to the Ulm municipal council. Many of the numerous SSV Ulm fans silently accept the neo-Nazi hooligans. SSV hooligans, the Identitarian Movement and the AfD have repeatedly disrupted CSDs and other demonstrations in Ulm in the past. They pose a potential threat, including at this CSD.
In this threatening scenario, queer people are also a lucrative cash cow, and their presence at Pride serves to cultivate their image: look how progressive I am! Today, we can make a lot of money and advertise ourselves. As at every commercial Pride, we will find large corporations as sponsors in Ulm. One of them is the global pharmaceutical company teva, which has been involved in million-dollar lawsuits in the USA concerning patient endangerment and profits from distribution deals with the Israeli government and thus (also) from military violence. This is not because teva is a uniquely evil company, but because this is how capitalist business works. In practical terms, this means that we, as queer people who also take medication and who sometimes have to struggle with the medical and pharmaceutical system, see the CSD sponsored by such a company. That can make you miss Pride too!
We will also find a police stand at Pride and the CSU (rightwing conservative christian party) Neu-Ulm will serve as patron. In a world in which police violence is omnipresent and at a CSD that came into being because queer people stood up against police violence, this is remarkable. The fact that the CSU mayor of Neu-Ulm is the patron is also lip service at best. The very CSU that is introducing “gender bans” in Bavaria and is otherwise better known for its work against queer life.It is of course a great fortune and privilege – achieved through decades of activism – to live in a state and a city in which the police want to have a stand at Pride, in which even Christian-conservative parties support a CSD. We are also aware that this is how larger, more professionally organized Prides now function (through appropriate sponsorship).
So it’s not just about denouncing or spoiling the party, but we also want to do our bit to remind people of the other levels of Pride: the protest, the fight against the things that are getting us down (including the CSU, police violence and international pharmaceutical companies), the resistance to current conditions.We don’t want to be taken in, we don’t want to act as if everything is fine exactly as it is: Yes, we want to celebrate queer life and yes, we want to protest loudly yes, we will fight for what we all deserve! A good life for everyone!
